Moonlighting

  1. Surgical Education is a full-time endeavor.  It is the position of the Department of Surgery that the time a surgical resident is not on duty should be spent in study, rest or in family activity.
  2. Internal moonlighting is not allowed in the Department of Surgery.
  3. External moonlighting is strongly discouraged.  Residents who wish to engage in external moonlighting must discuss the matter with the Residency Program Director, and must have the approval of the Residency Program Director before the moonlighting activity occurs.
  4. Definitions of Internal Moonlighting and External Moonlighting, and Specific procedures to be followed for a request for permission to moonlight are listed in UAMS GME Policy 3.300, “Moonlighting and Malpractice Insurance Coverage While Moonlighting.”
