Leave of Absence
- Leave of Absence is available to residents under the provisions of UAMS GME Policy 2.210, Leave-Sick, Professional, Family Medical, Leave of Absence, Bereavement.
- The UAMS Surgery Residency Program follows the policy of the American Board of Surgery in that a complete training year consists of 48 (forty-eight) weeks of full-time surgical training.
- Residents who are approved for a leave of absence do so with the understanding that a Leave of Absence that results in a training year of less than forty-eight weeks of full-time surgical training will likely be required to “make up” a portion of the missed training at a later date.
- The specific details of the effect of a leave of absence on a resident’s training program will be discussed at the time of review of the Leave of Absence request.
