Throughout the United States, burn injuries account for more than 100,000 hospital admissions annually. While many burns are minor and have minimal consequences, some burns can be extensive or deep and resulting in significant scarring and functional impairment.

TheĀ Burn Center at Arkansas Children’s Hospital is the only facility of its kind in the state and has provided comprehensive, personal and state-of-the-art care to adult and pediatric patients since 1928. On average, every year, the burn center admits over 400 inpatients and has over 2250 outpatient visits.

The Burn Center is at the forefront of medicine, utilizing skin substitutes, advanced skin grafting techniques, virtual reality and other innovative technologies to help patients recover faster, decrease pain and improve cosmetic and functional outcomes.

In addition to thermal burns, the burn center manages the following conditions:

  • Chemical injuries
  • Electrical injuries
  • Inhalation injuries
  • Complex wounds (including pressure ulcers)
  • Necrotizing soft-tissue infections
