For the academic year of 2013-2014, UAMS broke its record for liver transplants, exceeding 36 in one year and achieving survival outcomes that exceed the National average. The UAMS Department of Surgery continues to grow its solid organ transplant team, striving to expand and continue to be the leader in transplant for the region.
On October 4th, 2014 the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences Vascular Surgery division organized a free abdominal aortic aneurysm screening event for the public held on the UAMS hospital campus. In one day, over 250 people were screened for AAA, carotid disease and PAD by our vascular lab with the assistance of medical students, PA students, residents and fellows!
In March 2014, the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences Vascular Surgery division partnered with Baptist Health Hospital in Little Rock to cover the vascular surgery care and provide another site for the vascular surgery training program. The all Board-Certified vascular surgery group has opened a new clinic with an active operative schedule and is also provides 24/7 coverage for vascular cases
