In 2015, UAMS broke its record for liver transplants and achieving survival outcomes that exceed the National average. The UAMS Department of Surgery continues to grow its solid organ transplant team, striving to expand and continue to be the leader in transplant for the region. As of February 2016, UAMS becomes the only medical center in the State of Arkansas to provide either liver or kidney transplantation.
The University of Arkansas Medical Sciences Vascular Surgery division organizes free abdominal aortic aneurysm screening event for the public, as well as venous disease screenings held on the UAMS hospital campus. At the first event, over 250 people were screened free of charge for AAA, carotid disease and PAD by our vascular lab with the assistance of medical students, PA students, residents and fellows!
Since March 2014, the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences Vascular Surgery division partnered with Baptist Health Hospital in Little Rock to cover the vascular surgery care and provide another site for the vascular surgery training program. The Board-Certified vascular surgery group has opened a new clinic with an active operative schedule and is also provides 24/7 coverage for vascular cases.
Congratulations to Dr. Ahsan Ali in the Vascular Surgery division who is honored at the 2016 Society for Vascular Surgery annual meeting to speak in the “On the Shoulders of Giants” session, describing his experience and technique treating infected aortic aneurysms with native femoral vein reconstructions (NAIS).
